Memory Lane Privacy Policy - SpaceSocks Studios
Privacy policy for Memory Lane by SpaceSocks Studios: how your photos are processed, stored and deleted.
Effective date. October 21, 2026. This policy covers the Memory Lane iPhone app (“Memory Lane: Photo Restore”) from SpaceSocks Studios (“we”, “us”), an independent studio run by Ryan Geidl. Questions: support@spacesocksstudios.com.
The short version. Memory Lane has no accounts, no ads, no tracking and no analytics SDKs. A photo leaves your iPhone only when you ask the app to restore it with AI and have allowed cloud processing. It is used only to restore it, is not kept after processing, and is never used by us to train AI. Your restored photos and album stay on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud Drive.
Photos you choose. You pick photos with Apple's system photo picker, which gives Memory Lane only the photos you select, not the rest of your library. You can also scan a print with your camera. Memory Lane does not browse, read or upload anything else from your photo library.
AI restoration and your consent. Before the first cloud restoration, the app explains what happens and asks for your permission. If you allow it, each photo you choose to restore or enhance is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our restoration service, which runs on Cloudflare Workers and forwards the photo to Google's Gemini API to produce the restored image. The result is sent straight back to your iPhone. If you choose “Not now”, Memory Lane uses a basic restoration that runs entirely on your device and nothing is uploaded. Your choice is remembered on your device; to change it later, delete and reinstall the app.
No training, no storage. We use your photos only to perform the restoration you asked for. We do not use them to train AI models, we do not sell or share them, and our service does not store them after processing. Only transient technical logs (such as the time of a request, its size and any error) are kept briefly to run and secure the service; they do not contain your photos. Google processes each photo as our service provider under its Gemini API terms for paid services, which state that Google does not use this content to improve its products; Google may retain it for a limited period solely to detect abuse and meet legal obligations.
Where your photos are stored. Your restorations, the originals you add and the album details you type (names, dates, places and stories) are stored on your iPhone and, if iCloud Drive is on, in Memory Lane's private app folder in your own iCloud Drive, so they sync to your other devices signed in to the same Apple ID. That iCloud data is stored by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy; we cannot access it. A photo is saved to your photo library only when you tap Save.
Permissions. Photos: Memory Lane asks only for add-only access, used to save restored photos and videos to your library when you tap Save. It never needs read access to your library because you choose photos through the system picker. Camera: used only when you choose to scan a printed photo; nothing is captured or recorded at any other time. You can change these permissions at any time in Settings → Memory Lane.
Purchases. Memory Lane Pro is sold and billed by Apple through your Apple ID. We never see your name, email address or payment details. To confirm an active subscription and apply limits, the app sends Apple's signed transaction information (such as product, purchase and expiry dates and a transaction identifier) to our restoration service.
Install ID and limits. The app creates a random install identifier when it's installed. It is sent with restoration requests so we can prevent abuse and apply limits: a usage counter for free previews is kept for up to 12 months, and daily counters for subscribers (keyed to the subscription's transaction identifier) expire after a few days. The install ID is not linked to your name, email address, Apple ID or any advertising identifier.
No tracking, ads or analytics. Memory Lane does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not use the advertising identifier, shows no ads and contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
Support emails. If you email us, we use your email address and anything you include (such as screenshots or device details) only to reply and fix the problem, and we delete it when it's no longer needed.
Who processes data for us. Cloudflare (hosting our restoration service), Google (the Gemini API that performs restoration) and Apple (App Store purchases and iCloud storage). They process data only to provide these services. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
International processing. Our service providers may process photos in the United States and other countries where they operate. Where the law requires it, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Deleting your data. Delete any restoration from your album in the app. To remove Memory Lane's iCloud copy, open Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage (on some iOS versions, Storage → Manage Account Storage) → Memory Lane → Delete Data. Deleting the app removes the data on your iPhone. Photos sent for restoration are already discarded after processing. To ask us to delete anything else linked to your install, such as usage counters, email support@spacesocksstudios.com.
Children. Memory Lane is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and similar laws). Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, object to or restrict its processing, and withdraw your consent at any time. We process photos on the basis of your consent, purchases to provide the subscription you bought, and install IDs for our legitimate interest in preventing abuse. We do not sell or “share” personal information as defined by California law, and we will never treat you differently for using your rights. Because Memory Lane has no accounts, we may need your install details to find records. Email support@spacesocksstudios.com; we reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Security. All connections use encryption in transit, our AI provider keys are kept on the server and never in the app, and access to the restoration service is limited to what's needed to run it.
Changes. If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date, and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or on this page.
